The Cryptid Ensemble is committed to creating thrilling performances of works for chamber orchestra by today’s artists working with sound. Our mission is to create a collaborative artistic process where our collective of musicians engage in democratic artistic decision-making.
We work to develop an environment where the musicians are empowered and supported in artistic direction, resulting in profound performance experiences, and inspiring others to pursue cooperative artistry.
The Cryptid Ensemble is early in its history with exciting news on the horizon - please stay tuned for our future plans.

The Cryptid Ensemble is based on Land in Tkaronto. We recognize that this is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We acknowledge that the rights of Indigenous peoples were stripped and denied using centuries of laws and policies based on “legal” doctrines such as “terra nullius”, which declared the land “empty” despite the presence of Indigenous peoples. We hope that by acknowledging the Land, we can offer a small yet significant act of resistance against the continued erasure of
Indigenous people and their rights.
